I extend my personal gratitude to all who helped to make a difference towards fulfilling our mission, throughout this challenging year. The following extraordinary people deserve a special amount of thanks and recognition they are:
Great news! Our Wednesday and Friday Morning Bingo reinvented by long time returned volunteer Bingo Manager Beverly Bayne and new comer volunteer Bingo Manager Cheryl Schadwald they and their dedicated volunteers are responsible for generating over $ 60,000 in profits this year. Congratulations to our bingo managers and all of our devoted bingo-volunteers, you are making a huge difference.
Our creative fundraising committee’s leaders and Thrift Shop Managers Mickey Miller, and Dorothy Jimerson, are working tirelessly to keep their brain child the Thrift Shop thriving, the Thrift Shop and two Jewelry Sale- fundraisers contributed $19,000 to our center’s mission this year. A special thank you to these ladies and our thrift shop volunteers for keeping everyone in fashion and raising funds to support the center.
Our Travel Office, managed by Ruberta Wood, despite our fledgling economy has booked as many venture and gambling trips this year, as when the economy was in full swing. Thanks to Ruberta’s devotion to the participants that love our travel department. The Travel program will contribute over $ 8,000, to our center’s operations this year.
We are especially thankful to all of our dedicated volunteers who help make these services possible. We value all of our devoted volunteers for their support, time and talent. Thank you!
To our community businesses, individual donors and city council member supporters’ thank you for sponsoring fund raisers, providing special events, seminars, hosting parties, volunteering and for your generous donations.
A special thanks to Juliana Williams General Manager of Merrill Gardens of North Bay for hosting the 3rd Annual Carnival Fundraiser for our center. We thank Linda Johnson Marketing Director for Merrill Gardens of Vallejo for making our special events, special, thank you Linda; we can always count on you and Juliana to make a difference.
We owe the following foundations and the City of Vallejo our gratitude for recognizing the valuable services we provide to our community, by funding our grant requests; The AT&T Foundation $8, 000, The Woodlawn Foundation $29,000, United Way of the Bay Area $10,000, and the Community Development Block Grant funds approved by the City of Vallejo $ 19,122., and the Bernice M. Hemphill Trust $10,000.

The Vallejo Senior Citizens' Council Inc. has operated the Florence Douglas Senior Center a 501 c 3 non-profit, public charities since 1974. The City of Vallejo provides our center with our facility at 333 Amador Street for a rental fee of $1.00 per year, plus water. The center raises 100% of their budget through, class fees, bingo, special events, donations, and corporate partnerships.
Individual Donations:
Individuals can make monetary donations to Florence Douglas Senior to support the operations of the center. Please make your tax-deductible contribution to the Florence Douglas Senior Center either by mail or in person.
